Two Skagit Valley College students selected for prestigious chemistry research program at WWU
Owen Reeder and Camden Losey, students from Skagit Valley College, were selected for the prestigious National Science Foundation-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program at Western Washington University. This program offers undergraduates the opportunity to engage in real-world chemistry research alongside university faculty. Reeder, from Anacortes, will focus on synthesizing polymers for fuel cells and aims for a PhD in chemistry. He credits SVC’s engaging courses for shaping his academic path. Losey, from Stanwood, will assist in developing silk polymers for medical applications and plans to transfer to the University of Washington’s Chemical Engineering program.
Both highlight the significance of their coursework and lab experiences in securing their spots in the program. The REU experience not only enhances their research skills but also provides a platform for exploring future career options. Their success underscores the strong foundation in STEM education at Skagit Valley College.
