First-ever Waterland Pride will be this Saturday in Des Moines

Burien, WALocal News

The first-ever Waterland Pride event is set for June 25, 2022, in Des Moines, aiming to celebrate LGBTQ+ pride through various activities. Organizers seek to establish this event as an annual festival that attracts thousands of fans. Just days prior, the "6/22 Men In Black Birthday Bash" drew over 100 attendees to the Quarterdeck, commemorating the Maury Island Incident and its first alleged Man In Black. The event recognized notable figures, awarding special "MIBBY" honors to film Executive Producer John White and Senator Karen Keiser. Each recipient received a medallion and a Fedora hat, accompanied by chants from the crowd.

Live music and a costume contest contributed to the celebratory atmosphere. The combination of these two events showcases the vibrant community spirit in Des Moines and its commitment to inclusivity. Local historian/filmmaker Steve Edmiston organized the Men In Black event, emphasizing the area's rich historical narratives.
