King County Library System to expand hours of operation starting Sunday, Feb. 27
The King County Library System (KCLS) will expand its hours by 18% starting February 27, 2022, enhancing access to library services throughout the region. Most libraries will add an extra day of service, ensuring patrons can visit seven days a week. For example, Burien Library will be open Sunday through Friday, while Boulevard Park Library will serve patrons Tuesday through Saturday. KCLS Executive Director Lisa Rosenblum stated the system is excited to restore in-building services as part of its recovery efforts. During the pandemic, KCLS operated under modified hours but continued to serve the community through innovative services like curbside pickup and virtual programming.
All 50 libraries reopened to the public in July 2021, marking a significant step towards normalcy. KCLS is recognized as one of the busiest library systems in the U. S. , with over 1. 2 million cardholders.
In 2021, KCLS ranked as the fourth-largest digital circulating library system globally, with residents checking out over 7. 8 million digital items.
