LETTER TO THE EDITOR A Letter To The KCLS Board RePuget Sound Park

Burien, WALocal News

In a letter to the KCLS Board, Douglas and Maria Sykes from Burien requested an immediate halt to discussions with King County regarding the ownership rights of Puget Sound Park until its annexation is finalized. They criticized the proposed transaction as unethical, comparing it to a car purchase where critical components are sold to a third party before delivery. The Sykes argued that such actions undermine the rights of the original buyer, in this case, the City of Burien. They stressed the necessity for negotiations to occur in an open manner, inviting input from the affected communities to foster transparency. With an upcoming vote on a library levy lid, they warned that KCLS risks alienating voters in nearby neighborhoods, which could impact future support.

The need for community engagement in local governance is underscored by their concerns about the proposed actions. The letter serves as a call to prioritize local interests and ensure ethical dealings in public property negotiations. The Sykes aim to protect community rights and promote accountability in local governance.
