Next presentation on Sea-Tac Airport expansion plan set for Tuesday night

Burien, WALocal News

Sea-Tac Airport staff will present an update on the airport's expansion plan at the SeaTac City Council meeting on March 24 at 6:30 p. m. The Puget Sound Regional Council predicts a population surge of more than 1. 7 million residents by 2040, increasing the demand for services at Sea-Tac. Last year, the airport served nearly 37.

5 million passengers, and projections indicate this number could rise to 66 million by 2040. The Port of Seattle's Sustainable Airport Master Plan seeks to accommodate this growth while reducing environmental impacts by enhancing existing infrastructure. Key features of the plan include adding 35 new aircraft gates and potentially expanding passenger terminals. The presentation will not be an open house, following two previous community sessions held in Des Moines and Seattle. As the 14th busiest airport in the nation, Sea-Tac plays a crucial role in Washington's economy, which is heavily reliant on trade.

The need for expanded air cargo facilities will also be addressed as part of the expansion process.
