Susan West, the former Mayor of Normandy Park, is featured in Highline Public Schools’ #HighlineAlum campaign this month. A 1985 graduate of Mount Rainier High School, West served on the City Council before becoming Mayor in 2014, completing her term in January 2016. Before her public service, she had a successful career as a television news reporter and anchor at various stations, including KOMO-TV and Q13. Now, she works for King County as a Public Information Officer. West attributes her success to the education she received in the Highline School District, stating, “All those schools and teachers gave me tools to be able to follow my dreams.

” Her acknowledgment of the district underscores the vital role of local education in developing future leaders. The campaign aims to inspire current students by showcasing successful alumni. West’s story serves as a reminder of the impact of community support and quality education.
