Merrill Gardens senior complex construction to start at Town Square next month

Burien, WALocal News

Merrill Gardens will start construction in June on a new senior housing complex north of Burien City Hall, alongside another multifamily apartment project. City Manager Kamuron Gurol confirmed the issuance of permits and the expected construction start date of June 2. The developments will generate significant noise and traffic, and city officials will keep local residents informed about potential impacts. The senior housing complex will include 126 apartments and a public plaza, while the second project will feature 228 apartments in a six-story building. Both projects aim to revitalize the Town Square area, which has faced setbacks since the original development opened in 2009.

Merrill Gardens has been a leader in senior housing for over two decades, with 27 communities across six states. The construction's groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for June 25. Local officials emphasize the importance of new development despite the challenges it may bring to existing residents.
