B-TOWN BIZ Empty storefronts starting to fill as businesses move into Burien

Burien, WALocal News

Burien's downtown area is witnessing a revival, marked by the opening of five small businesses and plans for CVS Pharmacy and LA Fitness to enter the market. Economic development manager Dan Trimble highlights an increasing demand for vacant commercial spaces, indicating a shift in local business activity. New openings include Lucky You, a high-end women’s consignment shop, and Start Fresh Bakery, which will provide organic foods. The Maven Mercantile aims to offer gourmet-style Northwest foods, while Black Zia Cantina will feature a mix of Mexican and American cuisine. Trimble suggests that the unique appeal of small businesses offers an authentic experience distinct from shopping malls.

The CVS Pharmacy will be located at Five Corners, serving as the closest drug store to Highline Medical Center. LA Fitness plans to open in the renovated Saar’s Market location by late spring or early summer 2014. This economic development could lead to increased city tax revenues and bolster local business activity after years of concern over empty storefronts.
