Highline Schools Foundations Gold Star Awards Breakfast raises over 92,000

The Highline Schools Foundation's Gold Star Awards Breakfast occurred on April 18, 2014, at Cedarbrook Lodge, with 230 attendees raising over $92,000 for Highline Public Schools. Highlights included Superintendent Dr. Susan Enfield's address, which provided insights into the district's strategic plan and future opportunities. A $5,000 scholarship was awarded to Camila Palacio, a senior at Raisbeck Aviation High School, as part of Alaska Airlines' first annual scholarship initiative. Brad Tilden, CEO of Alaska Airlines, presented the Outstanding Alumnus Award to Ray Conner, CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, both graduates of Highline Public Schools.

The centerpiece auction proved highly successful, generating nearly $6,000 in just 60 seconds, thanks to contributions from local business owner Dan the Sausageman. Award winners included Outstanding Teacher Claire Waistell of Sylvester Middle School and Outstanding Classified Employee Linda Simpier from the Highline Transportation Department. The event showcased the community's commitment to supporting educational needs and enhancing student experiences. The funds raised will benefit academic programs, arts, athletics, and unique individual student needs throughout the district.
