Burien teen, 14, arrested in stolen car in Kent with two 12-year-old passengers

Burien, WALocal News

A 14-year-old boy from Burien was arrested in Kent after leading police on a pursuit in a stolen Hyundai Elantra with two 12-year-old girls as passengers. The incident occurred just after 9:30 p. m. when Officer Jones spotted the stolen vehicle reported taken from Auburn. Instead of stopping, the teen drove erratically, nearly colliding with a patrol car, before pulling over due to a smoking tire.

He told police he noticed the brakes were failing, prompting his decision to stop. Officers booked him into the King County Juvenile Detention Center for possession of a stolen vehicle and attempting to elude police. During the arrest, he expressed surprise at the continued pursuit, indicating a lack of understanding of the situation's seriousness. Kent Police emphasized the importance of this incident as a wake-up call for the suspect and his passengers. The involvement of minors raises concerns about juvenile delinquency and the need for community intervention.
