PHOTOSVIDEO Newly-renovated Playground opens at Dottie Harper Park

Burien, WALocal News

On July 22, 2015, City of Burien officials celebrated the opening of the newly-renovated Dottie Harper Park Playground, marking a significant investment in community recreation. The project was made possible by a $195,000 grant from the federal Community Development Block Grant Program and an additional $10,000 from city funds. Local children from the ‘From Roots to Wings’ daycare center participated in the festivities, immediately engaging with the new equipment. Designed by LA Studio, LLC, the playground features climbing rocks, a spinner, a slide, and swings, enhancing play options for children. Burien’s Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan, adopted in 2012, highlighted the need for such improvements, prompting city officials to pursue funding.

The Burien City Council authorized the upgrades in 2013, demonstrating a proactive approach to community needs. The project reflects evolving safety and accessibility standards for playgrounds, ensuring a safe environment for children. This investment not only enhances local amenities but also fosters community engagement and well-being.
