Burien Parks installs new 'Pulse Tennis' feature at Lake Burien School Park

Burien, WALocal News

Burien Parks has installed Pulse Tennis, an interactive game for children aged 5-12, at Lake Burien School Memorial Park to encourage active play. This initiative is part of a broader collaboration with King County Public Health and other organizations, aiming to promote healthy activities among families in South King County. Funded by a $100,000 King County Youth Sports Facilities Grant, it seeks to combat local youth obesity, which affects 25% of children in the area. Players enhance their physical fitness by chasing and tapping LED lights, improving hand-eye coordination and burning calories. Michael Lafreniere, City of Burien PaRCS Director, highlighted the community's role in fostering healthier lifestyles.

The Pulse Tennis feature is one of several outdoor fitness installations across parks in South King County, including Auburn and Renton. This initiative reflects a commitment to addressing childhood obesity, which can lead to serious health issues later in life. The program aims to provide engaging fitness opportunities that promote overall wellness for youth and families.
