King County Council approves vital links to Lake to Sound Trail

The Metropolitan King County Council has taken a significant step toward enhancing regional connectivity by approving legislation for the Lake to Sound Trail, which will link Burien and SeaTac. Sponsored by Councilmember Dave Upthegrove, this project will create a dedicated trail along Des Moines Memorial Drive, improving access for pedestrians and cyclists. Funded through a combination of King County Parks Levy funds and a $1. 46 million federal grant, the initiative reflects strong local collaboration. Both Burien and SeaTac will assume ownership and maintenance responsibilities, while King County will manage the design and construction process.

Construction is set to commence in March 2015, with completion anticipated by February 2016. Local officials, including Burien Mayor Lucy Krakowiak and SeaTac Mayor Mia Gregerson, emphasize the trail's role in promoting healthy lifestyles and enhancing public transit use. The completed trail will not only connect the two cities but also integrate into a broader regional trail system, fostering recreational and commuting opportunities. This project highlights the importance of partnerships across jurisdictions to build sustainable community infrastructure.
