Police Chief Selection Process Underway

Burien, WALocal News

The City of Burien is actively working to appoint a new police chief for the Burien Police Department, following the departure of former Chief Theodore Boe, who has taken a position with the Des Moines Police Department. The selection process will comply with the Interlocal Agreement for police services with King County, ensuring proper protocol is followed. A series of stakeholder panels, which include city leadership, councilmembers, and community leaders, will conduct interviews with prospective candidates. City Manager Adolfo Bailon highlighted the significance of having a diverse group leading the selection, with a commitment to racial equity in this critical role. He expressed excitement about having a majority of panelists as people of color, reflecting the cultural richness of Burien.

The feedback gathered from these panels will play a crucial role in the final selection decision. Until the new chief is appointed, Captain Tom Calabrese will serve as the interim police chief. The city commits to keeping the community informed throughout the process, looking forward to a successful transition.
