Chung (Joe) Van was appointed to the Highline School Board as the new Director for District 3 during a special meeting on April 15, 2015. His immediate participation in the School Board meeting following his oath highlighted his eagerness to contribute. School Board President Bernie Dorsey commended Van's strong ties to the SeaTac community, noting his commitment to the district's educational goals. Van is a 1995 alumnus of Tyee High School and holds an AA in Administration of Justice from Highline Community College. His personal connection to the district is evident as he has three children enrolled at McMicken Heights Elementary, who led the Pledge of Allegiance at the meeting.

Expressing his gratitude for the role, Van stated, “I consider all the kids in our schools my kids. ” Currently, he works at Owens & Minor, contributing to the medical supply industry while actively participating in civic duties. Van's term will continue until the end of 2015, with an election for the position planned for November of that year.
