White Center Repair Event will be Sat., Oct. 5 at Steve Cox Memorial Park

Burien, WALocal News

The White Center Repair Event, taking place on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019, at Steve Cox Memorial Park, is a free community initiative aimed at promoting waste reduction and sustainability. Participants are encouraged to bring small household items and clothing for repair, with experienced fixers ready to assist. The event will also feature a community clothing swap and activities for children, fostering a family-friendly environment. Organizers, including the King County Solid Waste Division and King County Parks Division, stress the importance of community engagement in reducing waste through repair instead of disposal.

While sign-ups are not mandatory, contacting the event coordinator can help ensure a smooth experience. This marks the 65th repair event sponsored by King County and the eighth held in White Center, showcasing the area's commitment to environmental stewardship. The event is expected to draw significant local interest, with organizers planning to host 12 repair events next year to further promote this initiative. The collaboration with local non-profit WestSide Baby for donations emphasizes community support and responsibility.
