Community Connectors Program Launches

Burien, WALocal News

The City of Burien is set to launch the Community Connectors program, aimed at strengthening civic engagement through the involvement of trusted community leaders. This initiative will particularly target Spanish, Vietnamese, and Amharic speakers, ensuring that voices from diverse backgrounds are heard in local decision-making processes. Community Connectors will work closely with city staff to advise on effective engagement strategies, outreach plans, and program development, enhancing the city's connection with its residents. They will also play a pivotal role in translating documents and interpreting at events, making civic information accessible to all. By compensating participants at $50 per hour, Burien underscores its commitment to valuing community contributions and expertise.

The program is designed to improve feedback loops between the city and its residents, fostering a more inclusive environment. This initiative not only addresses critical issues of representation but also empowers community members to actively participate in shaping their city's future.
