Burien Film Festival will show films, announce new contest Sept. 3

Burien, WALocal News

The Burien Film Festival's 'Movies in the Park' event on August 20 was marred by technical difficulties, preventing the screening of the top three films from the 2015 festival. In response to the disappointment, organizers will host a free screening at the Tin Room on September 3, where Burien residents can finally see the acclaimed films. John White, co-founder of the festival, expressed regret over the missed opportunity but highlighted the importance of turning setbacks into positive outcomes. The event will also introduce the next Burien Movie Contest, offering up to $1,000 in cash prizes to participants. Local businesses have shown interest in collaborating for future events, and the festival aims to focus on the neglected SW 153rd Street for its 2016 theme.

Organizers are seeking community input and suggestions during the September event. The Tin Room Theater, located at 923 SW 152nd Street, will screen the films starting at 6 p. m. on September 3. This initiative not only aims to resolve the previous technical issues but also fosters community engagement and support for local artists.
