Regions first Maritime High School to open in Fall 2021

Maritime High School will open in September 2021 at the Olympic Interim Site in Des Moines, with applications accepted until January 31. This new regional high school will be administered by Highline Public Schools and will focus on maritime careers and environmental education. Partnerships with the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition and the Northwest Maritime Center will enhance community engagement and educational support. Superintendent Susan Enfield emphasized the importance of preparing students for the maritime industry's job opportunities in the region. Principal Tremain Holloway, who has experience as co-principal at Highline High School, will lead the new school.

Students will participate in internships and hands-on projects, providing them with practical skills and knowledge. The curriculum will include marine science and vessel operations, with an innovative transcript to showcase students' learning across subjects. By graduation, students will be equipped to pursue maritime careers or continue their education at colleges.
