Burien Police conduct epic slow speed chase, arrest driver of small, stolen utility truck

Burien police arrested a suspect on October 14, 2021, following a slow-speed chase that began when he stole a Workman utility truck. The pursuit was characterized by an unusually low speed of 15 mph, prompting officers to prioritize community safety by halting the chase. Nearly four hours later, a detective in an unmarked vehicle spotted the suspect at a Fred Meyer store, where he parked and entered to shop. Witnesses positively identified him, resulting in an arrest without incident. The suspect faces charges for possession of a stolen vehicle and eluding police.

Legal proceedings are expected to advance as detectives prepare to forward the felony case to prosecutors. Courts classify the utility truck as a vehicle, making the theft a serious offense. The unusual nature of the chase has drawn local attention, highlighting law enforcement's response to theft in the community.
