Seattle City Light responds to Buriens power outage concerns
Seattle City Light is responding to Burien's power outage concerns by prioritizing infrastructure upgrades to improve service reliability. The city recorded six major outages in just the first half of 2025, with weather-related incidents becoming a significant issue in recent years. Lightning was the top cause of outages in 2023, prompting local businesses to express their frustrations. In response, Seattle City Light committed to investing in system upgrades and maintenance designed to enhance service stability. During a recent outreach event on May 19, 2025, the utility's team visited 31 businesses to provide customized energy-saving recommendations.
Suggestions included replacing inefficient heating systems and installing outdoor light sensors to optimize energy use. While these initiatives help businesses save on utility bills, they do not directly resolve the outage issues. Another round of outreach visits is planned for later this summer to continue addressing business needs.
