Mona Atallah, representing the Arab community, expressed appreciation for the recognition and highlighted the importance of shared values such as family and hospitality. Mayor Mason Thompson then proclaimed April 13th as Vaisakhi and Khalsa Day, celebrating the Sikh community's rich heritage and values of truth and equality. Both communities were invited to engage with the public through cultural events.

The council's unanimous support reflects a growing trend among local governments to celebrate diversity and combat prejudice.
