Bothell City Council Focuses on Downtown Sub-Area Plan Update
On March 18, 2025, the Bothell City Council held a study session to review the downtown sub-area plan update, which has been in effect for 16 years. The council is seeking community feedback as the city has grown significantly, adding over 2,600 housing units and approximately 6,000 new residents. City Manager Kyle Stannert and Community Development Director Jason Greenspan highlighted the importance of the plan and presented the objectives for the evening. Greenspan stated the goal is to ensure downtown remains a welcoming center that promotes equitable growth supported by vibrant public spaces. The council discussed the necessity for community involvement and transparency in the planning process, with Councilmember Jenne Alderks stressing the importance of incorporating community feedback.
Ongoing construction and the need for a community engagement strategy were key points during the meeting, with Councilmember Dodd suggesting outreach at summer events. No formal votes were taken, but the council aims to integrate public input moving forward. Additional sessions will be scheduled to discuss the housing action plan and climate action initiatives.
