The Washington State Transportation Commission is seeking public input on proposed tolling adjustments for I-405, focusing on increasing the maximum toll from $15 to $18 to address congestion and ensure express lane speeds of at least 45 mph 90% of the time. The commission is also exploring weekend tolling from 5 a. m. to 8 p. m.

, aligning with Highway 167 practices. These changes coincide with the construction of new express toll lanes, set to open in late 2025. Rising costs due to inflation have increased the project budget from $605 million to an estimated $834 million. The increased tolls are part of a strategy to adapt to changing vehicle demographics, including more electric and hybrid vehicles. Residents can provide feedback through a public survey until December 13, 2024, with the commission reviewing responses in early 2025.
