Wallace Falls closed due to bomb cyclone damage

Bothell, WALocal News

Wallace Falls State Park, located near Gold Bar, has been closed until further notice due to severe damage caused by a bomb cyclone last month, resulting in over 170 fallen trees along the main trail and a rockslide impacting the popular Middle Falls Viewpoint. While the park is honoring existing cabin reservations, it has stopped taking new bookings and is offering full refunds to guests for December. The reopening date is currently unknown as crews assess the damage and begin restoration work. Area Manager Shawn Tobin, with 25 years of experience at the park, stated that this is the most extensive damage he has witnessed, emphasizing the challenging work ahead. The park covers 1,380 acres along the Wallace River, featuring trails that provide stunning views of numerous waterfalls.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of natural areas to severe weather events and raises concerns about the long-term impact on local ecology and tourism. As the community awaits updates, the situation underscores the importance of environmental conservation and preparedness in the face of climate-related challenges.
