Bothell, WALocal News

A serious traffic accident occurred on Thursday at approximately 5:46 p. m. on Bothell Everett Highway when a driver failed to yield to a bicyclist. The driver, a 22-year-old man operating a gray Subaru WRX, turned left into an apartment complex without noticing the cyclist, who was riding an electric-assist bike in the bike lane. The collision resulted in the cyclist, aged 54, being thrown from his bike and sustaining multiple fractures.

Emergency responders quickly transported him to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, where he was treated for serious injuries, though they were not life-threatening. Authorities from the Washington State Patrol stated that the driver would face a citation for failing to yield to a vulnerable user. This incident underscores the critical need for increased awareness among drivers regarding cyclists on the road and raises broader questions about safety measures for cyclists in urban areas as cycling becomes more popular.
