Bothell, WALocal News

Community Transit in Snohomish County has introduced a comprehensive service upgrade that launched on September 14, 2024, coinciding with the opening of four new light rail stations. This upgrade significantly enhances local transportation by refocusing resources, providing faster and more frequent bus routes, and simplifying fare structures. The new fare system includes a $2. 50 adult fare, a discounted $1. 25 fare for eligible riders, and free rides for youths under 18.

A notable addition is the extension of the Swift Blue Line, which now connects directly to the Shoreline North/185th light rail station, facilitating smoother transfers for riders. Residents have expressed excitement about the expanded transit options, with Edmonds resident Mark Tucci highlighting the ease of getting to the light rail station on opening day. The improvements are expected to have a far-reaching impact beyond convenience, promoting equity and accessibility in transportation. With increased service frequency and improved reliability, the upgrade will help residents access essential services like jobs, education, and healthcare. Community Transit is thus positioned to support the growing needs of Snohomish County residents in a more vibrant and connected manner.
