In a tragic case, Delfino Lopez-Morales was sentenced to 11⅓ years in prison for the drunk driving accident that killed two 18-year-olds, Riley Danard and Khalea Thoeuk, on the West Seattle Bridge. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on March 22, 2023, when Lopez-Morales drove the wrong way, reaching speeds over 100 mph, far exceeding the 45 mph limit. Eyewitnesses called 911, and a blood test revealed Lopez-Morales' blood-alcohol level was 0. 14, significantly above the legal limit. The sentencing took place on November 8, 2024, after he pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide in August.

His defense attorney argued he felt deep remorse, seeking a lighter sentence, while prosecutors requested the maximum. The community mourned the loss of the teens, with family and friends sharing heartfelt letters during the hearing, remembering Danard, who had just celebrated his 18th birthday. This case underscores the severe consequences of impaired driving and its devastating impact on families and communities.
