I-405/Brickyard to SR 527 Improvement Project to Enhance Congestion Management and Transit Access
The I-405/Brickyard to SR 527 Improvement Project represents a vital enhancement to a four and a half-mile section of the I-405 corridor, primarily located in Bothell, Washington. Spearheaded by WSDOT, Sound Transit, and Skanska USA Inc. , the initiative addresses significant congestion issues while modernizing aging infrastructure. Since the implementation of express toll lanes in 2015, the northern end of I-405 has seen improved travel reliability, yet congestion persists in certain areas, especially during morning rush hours. The project will extend the dual-express toll lane system and create three new Stride bus rapid transit stations to promote efficient public transport.
With direct access ramps to the express toll lane system and a partial interchange at SR 527, buses will be able to pick up and drop off passengers without leaving the freeway. This will enhance the Stride service, providing buses every 10 minutes for most of the day. Additionally, the project will address environmental concerns by correcting multiple fish barriers, adding noise walls, and improving stormwater facilities. Ultimately, the improvements aim to facilitate better connectivity for communities, freight, and regional growth centers throughout the corridor.
