Boston, MALocal News

Boston’s Office of Language and Communications Access has awarded contracts to three community-based organizations to enhance translation services for essential city resources. The Immigrant Family Services Institute, Vietnamese American Civic Association, and Asian American Civic Association will focus on culturally sensitive translations in Haitian Creole, Vietnamese, Traditional and Simplified Chinese. Mariangelis Solis Cervera, Chief of Equity and Inclusion, highlighted that these efforts ensure residents can confidently access city resources. Jeniffer Vivar Wong, Director of the Office of Language and Communications Access, emphasized the importance of cultural context in effective communication. The onboarding process for these organizations, which began last month, aims to promote excellence in translated materials.

This initiative aligns with Mayor Michelle Wu’s vision of making Boston accessible for all residents, regardless of language barriers. Community leaders expressed pride in collaborating with the city to provide respectful and empowering translations. These partnerships reflect a commitment to understanding and serving Boston’s diverse communities.
