Mayor Michelle Wu Celebrates Graduation of Fourth Powercorp Boston Cohort
Mayor Michelle Wu celebrated the graduation of the fourth cohort of PowerCorps Boston, a program aimed at equipping young adults with essential skills for green industry careers. This graduation is particularly significant as it marks the first cohort to complete the newly expanded ten-month program, which focuses on hands-on training in urban forestry, urban greening, and energy-efficient building operations. The initiative operates under a "learn and earn" model, providing participants aged 18-30 with paid training and essential career readiness support. Mayor Wu commended the graduates for their contributions to making Boston's neighborhoods more vibrant and resilient. Brian Swett, Chief Climate Officer, noted that the program's expansion allows for deeper skills development and greater impact on the community.
Executive Director Davo Jefferson emphasized the vital partnerships with green industry employers that have helped many graduates secure jobs. By collaborating with over 60 organizations, PowerCorps Boston aims to cultivate a climate-ready workforce while fostering economic mobility for marginalized groups. This initiative is a critical step towards addressing Boston's pressing environmental challenges and building a sustainable future.
