State Awards Climate Ready Housing Grants to 7 Projects In Boston

Boston, MALocal News

The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced a $20. 5 million investment for seven affordable housing developments in Boston focused on energy retrofits and electrification. The Climate Ready Housing (CRH) grant program, managed by multiple state agencies, enables these projects to reduce energy use and improve resilience. Boston's Chief of Housing Sheila A. Dillon noted that integrating energy efficiency into affordable housing protects residents from rising costs and enhances their quality of life.

The funding will support over 275 affordable units across neighborhoods like Roxbury and Dorchester, improving air quality and extending the lifespan of crucial housing stock. Secretary of Housing Ed Augustus emphasized that modernizing existing affordable homes is vital for meeting the state's housing goals. This investment serves over 1,000 low-income individuals and families, promoting sustainable living in Massachusetts. The CRH program, established through the 2021 Economic Development Bond Bill, reflects the state's commitment to net-zero emissions. This funding not only aids in retrofitting homes but also aligns with broader climate and housing strategies in the Commonwealth.
