Mayor Michelle Wu Declares August 25 - 31, 2025 as "For The Culture Week"

Boston's "For The Culture Week," scheduled for August 25 to August 31, 2025, will honor Historically Black Colleges and Universities and celebrate the R&B group New Edition. The week includes the Essence HBCU Classic football game on August 30, featuring Morehouse College and Johnson C. Smith University at Harvard Stadium. Additional events comprise a street naming ceremony for New Edition and a community block party, recognizing the group's significant influence on Boston and music globally. Mayor Michelle Wu emphasized the city's dedication to uplifting diverse voices and honoring cultural legacies.

City Council President Ruthzee Louijeune noted that the week aims to celebrate the joy of Boston's Black communities through music and fellowship. City Councilor Brian Worrell highlighted the importance of investing in the next generation to continue the legacy of Black culture in Boston. For The Culture Week will also feature discussions focused on wealth-building for young people and families. The celebration will conclude with the 25th anniversary of Gospel Fest, featuring renowned artist John P. Kee.
