Boston, MALocal News

Elizabeth Camacho, a Cambridge woman, died after being struck by a Buick that jumped a curb in Maine on Friday. The accident occurred around 1 p. m. near Kennedy Park while she was walking across from City Hall. First responders initially took her to Central Maine Medical Center, but she was later airlifted to Maine Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.

The driver, Lionel Francisco, 31, was driving with a learner's permit and was detained by ICE after the crash. He cooperated with law enforcement and remained at the scene. The Lewiston Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident, but details surrounding Francisco's ICE detention remain unclear. Maine law requires proof of residency but does not mandate proof of legal presence for obtaining a driver's permit. Local authorities emphasize the importance of this investigation, which may influence future policies regarding driver licensing.
