Mayor Wu and Boston Parks and Recreation Department Celebrate Improvements to Harambee Park Cricket Fields
Mayor Michelle Wu inaugurated renovated cricket fields at Harambee Park, showcasing a $2. 4 million investment aimed at enhancing community sports facilities. The upgrades include a competition field with lighting, a practice field, bleacher seating, and improved pathways. This project is part of the City of Boston's commitment to invest over $13 million in the park since 2018, which has included various enhancements like a new playground and multipurpose fields. City Councilor Brian Worrell highlighted the significance of providing inclusive spaces for all athletes, particularly benefiting the local Caribbean community.
Community feedback during public meetings guided the design process, ensuring the final project met the needs of local cricket clubs. Cricket has been a central feature of Harambee Park for over a century, with its origins tracing back to 1889. The project was funded through the City’s five-year Capital Plan, with design work led by Weston & Sampson Engineers, Inc. and construction completed by Fleming Brothers, Inc.
