Six Boston Residents to be Honored at Literacy Scholarship Ceremony

The City of Boston will host the 2025 First Literacy Scholarship Ceremony on August 27, celebrating 29 adult learners, including six local residents. The ceremony recognizes those who have shown educational achievements and community service, with Trinh Nguyen serving as the keynote speaker. Nguyen, the Chief of Worker Empowerment, emphasized the significance of adult education initiatives in her speech. Since its inception in 1990, First Literacy has awarded over 600 scholarships, aiding adults in pursuing further education and career opportunities. Ana Maria Garcia, a second-year scholar, expressed her gratitude for the scholarship, which supports her ambition to earn a business degree.

Dr. Pam Eddinger, President of Bunker Hill Community College, praised Garcia's determination and resilience. Seventeen of the honored scholars will attend local colleges, including Bunker Hill Community College and UMass Boston. The scholarship program is vital for enhancing Boston's workforce talent and maintaining its competitive edge.
