Man charged in 2023 Caribbean festival shooting captured in Georgia

Gerald Vick, 31, was arrested in Georgia after a six-month investigation by the Boston Police Fugitive Unit. He is wanted in connection with a shooting that injured eight individuals during a Caribbean festival in Boston in August 2023. The shooting occurred shortly before 8 a. m. on the outskirts of the J’ouvert Parade in Dorchester.

Vick faces 14 charges, including eight counts of assault and battery with a firearm and unlawful possession of a machine gun. Police allege he used a modified 9 mm pistol equipped with a “Glock switch” during the incident. After cutting off his ankle monitor before a scheduled trial in December, a warrant was issued for his arrest. His co-defendants include Dwayne Francis, who pleaded not guilty to gun charges, and Sebastian Monteiro, who pleaded guilty to related offenses. The case highlights ongoing concerns related to gun violence and public safety during large community events.
