Boston University addresses harassment allegations with new investigation
Boston University is taking steps to bolster student well-being after allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced within its women's soccer team. A member of the team reported witnessing inappropriate behavior by head coach Casey Brown, prompting an external investigation. While the investigation found no evidence of harassment or policy violations, Brown has since departed from the university. Wendy Murphy, director of the Women’s and Children’s Advocacy Project, criticized the inadequate responses many schools provide to abuse reports. She noted that such reactions discourage others from coming forward.
The university aims to enhance its harassment reporting system to foster a safer environment for students. This move follows former player Alex Cooper's claims that her report of misconduct was ignored. Boston University is now seeking recommendations to ensure more robust support for its athletes.
