Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon issues call for male mentors
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon is actively seeking male mentors to support 63 boys aged 6 to 17 who are in need of positive adult influences. This nonprofit, part of J Bar J Youth Services, organizes bi-monthly meet-ups that may include outdoor activities or homework assistance. Program director Jenn Davis reveals that over half of the children in the program come from single-parent families and experience various adversities. With a total of around 220 kids either matched with a mentor or awaiting one, the demand for mentors is particularly urgent in Redmond. Interested individuals can apply to become a mentor through the organization’s website, bbbsco.
org, where they can also make donations to fund shared activities. The initiative aims to create lasting relationships that can positively impact the lives of these children. By stepping up as a mentor, volunteers can contribute to a crucial support system for youth in Central Oregon. Engaging in mentorship not only helps the children but also enriches the lives of the mentors themselves.
