Bend Fire Rescue Introduces New Advanced Life Support Ambulance
Bend Fire & Rescue has officially placed a new advanced life support ambulance into service, marking a crucial step in bolstering emergency medical responses in Bend, Oregon. The department faced a record high of nearly 14,000 service calls in 2024, with a staggering 75% categorized as medical emergencies. Fire Chief Todd Riley noted the increasing demand for resources and the necessity of improving response times, stating that timely interventions can significantly impact patient outcomes. Bend Mayor Melanie Kebler applauded the addition of the new ambulance, recognizing its role in equipping responders with essential tools for critical care. This new resource has been funded by a voter-approved operating levy passed in May 2023, which also enables the hiring of more responders and enhances training programs.
The integration of this ambulance is expected to lower emergency response times, ultimately benefiting the health and safety of the community. Furthermore, the department has recently graduated six new firefighter/paramedics who will be deployed in various stations around Bend. This comprehensive approach ensures that Bend Fire & Rescue is prepared to meet the growing demands of emergency services effectively.
