One hospitalized, two arrested after stabbing near downtown Bellingham

A 39-year-old man was hospitalized after being stabbed near Maritime Heritage Park in downtown Bellingham on Tuesday morning. Responding officers discovered the victim with two stab wounds in his back around 11:30 a. m. The police arrested two suspects, a 25-year-old from Bellingham and an 18-year-old from Everett, who allegedly challenged the victim to a fight before the assault. One suspect was also in possession of suspected cocaine at the time of the arrest.

The victim received emergency care and is expected to recover from his injuries at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center. Lt. Claudia Murphy from the Bellingham Police confirmed that both suspects remain in jail without bail as the investigation continues. Local residents may feel heightened concern regarding safety following this violent incident.

Further developments are anticipated as police continue to gather evidence.
