Bellingham Public Library secures over 6 million in funding for renovations
The Bellingham Public Library has secured $3. 03 million for renovations from the 2025-2027 Washington State budget. This funding includes $2 million from the Library Capital Improvement Program grant and $1. 03 million for Local & Community Projects. Mayor Kim Lund highlighted the importance of these funds for enhancing accessibility and creating a welcoming space for families.
The renovations will convert the ground floor into an ADA-accessible area for children and teens, along with a main floor help desk and staff areas. The library, established in 1950, is advancing to phase two of its renovation plan. The City of Bellingham and private donations will match the state funding, reinforcing community support. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2026 or 2027, marking a significant step towards modernizing the facility. This project aims to cultivate growth, learning, and connection within the community.
