Port of Bellingham parts ways with executive director Rob Fix

The Port of Bellingham Commission voted 2-1 to terminate Rob Fix as executive director, with the decision reflecting a desire for new leadership and direction. Commissioners Michael Shepard and Ken Bell supported the motion, while Bobby Briscoe, the only dissenting vote, praised Fix's significant impact on the port's development. Briscoe stated, "Rob Fix is one of the main reasons the Port of Bellingham is where it is today," highlighting Fix's role since he joined in 2008. Bell noted the need for a fresh vision as the commission looks to the future. Fix had served as executive director since 2012, having previously held the positions of chief financial officer and deputy director.

The commission's decision indicates a strategic pivot in leadership to address upcoming challenges. Tiffany DeSimone, the current Director of Maritime, has been appointed as Interim Executive Director. The change in leadership may signal an effort to align the port's goals with evolving community needs and opportunities.
