Burn ban takes effect in June for unincorporated Skagit County

Bellingham, WALocal News

A burn ban will begin on June 15 in unincorporated Skagit County due to increasing fire risks. The modified regulations allow fires contained within enclosures of no more than 3 feet in diameter and 2 feet in height. These enclosures, made from steel, stones, or cement, must stand at least 14 inches tall, with materials kept below the top. Water must be on hand at all burning locations, whether for residential or land-clearing fires, to mitigate potential hazards. The spokesperson for Skagit County emphasized the importance of adhering to additional restrictions, such as keeping fires away from structures and flammable materials.

The ban will remain in effect until further notice, highlighting the county's proactive approach to fire safety during dry seasons. Many residents in the area are expected to comply with the guidelines to prevent accidental wildfires. The county’s actions reflect a growing concern for environmental safety and community well-being.
