Whatcom County to host water adjudication workshops

Bellingham, WALocal News

Whatcom County Public Works will host three virtual workshops this month to guide water users through the water adjudication process. The initiative follows the Washington State Department of Ecology's distribution of claim forms to landowners in March, marking the start of a legal determination of water rights. Aspect Consulting, specializing in water rights, will lead each session, offering demonstrations and addressing inquiries. Limited to 50 households per workshop, participants must register in advance to secure their spot. In addition to the virtual sessions, Ecology plans to conduct two in-person open houses in Ferndale and Lynden, providing further opportunities for engagement.

This outreach is crucial as many landowners may be unfamiliar with the adjudication process and its implications. Ensuring that local residents understand their rights and responsibilities will help facilitate smoother compliance with state regulations. The workshops underscore the importance of water rights management in Washington State's continuing efforts to address water resource challenges.
