Dave Vitt Founder CEO of Kulshan Brewing Company

Bellingham, WALocal News

Kulshan Brewing Company, founded by Dave Vitt in 2011, has emerged as a significant player in Bellingham's craft beer scene, which has grown substantially over the past decade. Initially, Bellingham had only two breweries, but Kulshan's entry has spurred local enthusiasm for craft brewing. Vitt honed his skills at Fish Brewing, the state's only organic brewery at the time, before returning to Bellingham to launch Kulshan. The brewery quickly gained popularity, becoming the first in the area to can its beer, which led to increased demand and distribution. Kulshan operates two taprooms and a seasonal beer garden, Trackside, which opened during the pandemic to provide a safe outdoor space for community gatherings.

The beer garden will kick off its new season on May 2, featuring live music and community events. Kulshan distributes approximately 70% of its beer to local grocery stores and bars, highlighting the brewery's impact on the local economy. Kulshan's growth reflects a broader trend of craft beer popularity in Whatcom County.
