Lane closures on I-5 scheduled for next week in Bellingham

The Washington State Department of Transportation has announced lane closures on I-5 in Bellingham due to shoulder work scheduled for the week of April 28. On Monday, April 28, the left lane will close on the southbound side between Bakerview Road and Sunset Drive. The following day, the left lane will be closed from Iowa Street to slightly past Samish Way. Traffic will be affected on April 30 as crews close the left lane on the northbound side at the Chuckanut Drive exit through Iowa Street. The final lane closure will take place on May 1, affecting the stretch between Iowa Street and Bakerview Road.

All closures are expected to occur from 1 a. m. to 12 p. m. daily, which may disrupt early morning commuters.

These construction activities aim to improve the safety and functionality of the highway. Drivers should plan for delays and consider alternative routes during this period.
