One deceased, one rescued from boating accident near San Juan Island

A tragic boating accident near San Juan Island resulted in one fatality and one rescue over the weekend. The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a sailing vessel crashed into rocks between Cattle Point and Lopez Island on Saturday night, April 19. The vessel flooded and subsequently broke apart, leaving its two occupants in the water. A U. S.

Coast Guard helicopter successfully rescued one man who was wearing a life jacket, and he was flown to a nearby hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the second man was recovered from the water but was pronounced dead by medical responders upon arrival. The identity of the deceased has not been released as authorities await notification of next of kin.
