Bellingham, WALocal News

A 34-year-old Blaine man, Mark Bunch, died in a suspected DUI crash in Custer on Monday morning. The Washington State Patrol reported that the accident took place on I-5 near Custer School Road at approximately 7:30 a. m. Bunch lost control of his vehicle, veering off the road and striking a tree, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other passengers or vehicles involved in the crash, which raised concerns about the dangers of impaired driving.

The highway remained blocked for roughly 30 minutes as authorities responded to the incident. This tragic event underscores the persistent issue of DUI-related accidents in Washington State. In recent years, local authorities have implemented various campaigns to combat drunk driving and improve road safety. Community members are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspected impaired drivers to prevent similar tragedies.
