Employee accused of stealing thousands of dollars from Whatcom County business

Bellingham, WALocal News

A 37-year-old woman faces serious allegations of theft after being arrested in Whatcom County, WA, for purportedly stealing over $28,000 from her former employer. The owner of the unidentified business reported the incident to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, noting that the employee had taken an unauthorized draw in January. Initially, the woman assured the owner she would repay the funds but later claimed the money was rightfully hers. The investigation revealed that checks marked as “draw” totaling more than $28,000 had been deposited into her bank account last year. Upon questioning by deputies, the woman was unable to explain the source of these deposits, raising further suspicions.

She has since been taken into custody on charges of first-degree theft. The seriousness of these allegations highlights the potential consequences of financial misconduct in the workplace. Her arraignment is scheduled for April 11, where she will face the legal repercussions of her actions.
